Job Responsibilities

Principal Engineer (Spanning Platform Engineering & Software Architecture)

1. Key Responsibilities

• Build architecture and platform strategy across platform and software engineering
• Lead cross-domain technical initiatives and solve high-complexity problems
• Design scalable, secure, and composable platforms and reference architectures
• Be hands-on in building prototypes, debugging systems, and unblocking teams
• Author technical standards, drive adoption, and enforce technical direction
• Evaluate and introduce new technologies, design patterns, and architecture models
• Serve as final escalation for technical decisions, not a project manager or PO

2. Key Relationships

• Reports to: Senior Director
• Partners with: Platform Leads, Solution Architects, Tech leads, Data/AI teams
• Mentors: Senior Engineers across both platform and software domains

3. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Expert in cloud architecture (multi-region, microservices, event-driven systems)
• Strong in modern programming languages (Python, TypeScript/Node.js preferred)
• Deep understanding of DevSecOps, SRE, and platform architecture principles
• Skilled in API design, security models, system observability, and cost optimization
• Strong written and verbal communication, can influence without authority
• Builder mindset: writes code, reviews code, and builds with teams

4. Requisite Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or related field
• 7+ years of engineering experience, with at least 3 in platform/architecture leadership
• Proven track record of leading cross-team engineering initiatives hands-on
• Experience with both backend systems and platform infrastructure
• Bonus: Publications, open-source contributions, or previous org-wide architectural impact
