Job Summary
The Physician Assistant Fellow functions in a learning role receiving advanced training through practical hands-on and didactic educational experiences designed to increase confidence and clinical skills. The program includes a structured family practice continuity clinic experience along with additional specialty rotations. The Fellow will serve as a provider within various Lexington Medical Center Physician Practices, Community Medical Centers and partnered facilities. Under the supervision of a Physician, the Fellow will (1) assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination and diagnostic tests and (2) interpret data, develop and implement a plan of treatment, follow through on a continuum of patient care across the health-illness continuum and lifespan within standard protocols set forth and approved by both the Fellow and practice physicians.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: Masters or higher degree in nursing from an accredited College or University (obtained within the last 18 months)
Minimum Years of Experience: 2 Years of healthcare related experience
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Approved South Carolina state licensing through local medical licensing office and/or board of medical examiners;
- CPR & BLS
Required Training: Successful completion of a course of study or training approved by an accredited medical body such as CAHEA, American Medical Association, or the Association of Medical Colleges
Essential Functions
- Maintains current signed written practice agreements, reviewed and revise as needed.
- Has contact by phone, correspondence, or personal meetings with persons in other departments or outside the practice; tact is required in these contacts and the employee assumes the responsibility for harmonious relationships.
- Documents all situations, both internally and externally, that may arise out of the ordinary or are necessary to maintain accurate patient charts/records.
- Helps maintain the work area in a neat and orderly fashion. Responsible for obtaining and keeping supplies necessary to perform the job duties.
- Works directly with the Mgr of Clinical Support in establishing goals and objectives and follows them through to completion.
- The Fellow will be committed to attend and complete a scheduled sequence of educational requirements.
- Under supervision, Fellow provides diagnosis and treatment of common acute illnesses; prevention and maintenance health care to patients with stable chronic illnesses; and performs interim physical examinations for healthy patients within prescribed guidelines.
- Elicits appropriate present and past medical history and review of systems.
- Performs appropriate physical examination and orders appropriate diagnostic studies.
- Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings in history and physical.
- Establishes appropriate differential diagnosis.
- Assesses stability of chronic illness and compliance with present therapy; monitors for complications of disease or therapy.
- Establishes appropriate treatment plan. Assesses need for hospitalization or physician intervention.
- Determines timing for follow-up and orders appropriate referrals.
- Counsels regarding health maintenance and disease prevention, and provides anticipatory guidance as appropriate.
