Job Duties

This posting is open only to current Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice employees.

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

This position provides supervision, leadership and guidance to the Administrative Professionals team and Court Service Unit. Provides human resources support functions for the Court Service Unit; assisting to ensure that human resources functions are maintained according to policies and procedures. Characteristic activities: determines priorities, schedules, and reviews work; trains, counsels and formally evaluates employees including recommending and taking disciplinary action; evaluates and improves office productivity by recommending changes if necessary. Interprets and implements state and local policies and procedures; assures compliance with program requirements; collects and analyzes data.

In addition to the state salary, persons selected for this position may be eligible for a local supplement provided by the City of Alexandria. More information about the supplement will be provided if selected for an interview.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, selected candidates must possess the following:
• Experience demonstrated ability and/or knowledge as a team leader, coach, trainer or supervisor.
• Ability to display and encourage excellence in customer service.
• Experience, demonstrated ability, and/or proficiency in performing budget/fiscal management, procurement, purchasing and receiving duties
• Experience, demonstrated ability and/or proficiency to collaborate with Human Resources on HR related duties.
• Ability to work well with public and coworkers; ability to work independently; ability to manage and organize work and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of MS Office programs is essential.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff, other agencies, and public officials is also needed.

• Considerable experience in a similar position in an office setting with progressive responsibilities.
