Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a CDL Driver to join its organization. This position is located in Linthicum, MD.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pick up materials, deliver to the intended destination in a timely and efficient manner so materials arrive safely and intact as when freight was tendered to you. Verify count of material picked up and note any exceptions including possible damage or count discrepancies (over packs and palletized materials count only, not internal contents.)  Move material (both hazardous if certified, and routine materials in an efficient and safe manner) Drivers will be utilizing various material handling equipment such as pallet jacks (electric or manual) hand trucks, J bars, or any other devices required to load transport and unload.    

Operate company vehicles such as forklifts and over the road vehicles to pick up and deliver various materials, supplies, products.

KEEP THE FREIGHT MOVING

Safely operating company Trucks, ensuring pre trips inspections are always completed in log -ensure vehicles are up to date on maintenance and required inspections (DOT, etc.), complete drivers log recording entry at each stop daily include milage, stop nomenclature (WQA) and time arrived at stop.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: All mechanical, electrical, and manual equipment required to perform the job. Use various company vehicles, hand trucks, forklifts, etc., and required safety equipment.

DIRECTION OF OTHERS: Provide training assistance and lessons learned to other less experienced drivers to help ensure continuity of knowledge and skills.

WORKING PROCEDURE: The following are the usual major job duties but this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties by the incumbent, nor the question being raised on the proper rate of pay for the assignment.

  • Ensure you as a driver are familiar with your routes, understand your vehicles GVW, Max weight capacity, bed height, width of vehicle and any special instructions that may be required by the customer at the pickup/drop off location - Verbal instruction may be issued in lieu of written instruction.

  • Ensure as a driver you have been shown & understand the proper operations of the lift gate on your vehicle.

  • All drivers should carry an up to date “Emergency guidebook” (ERG) in truck as well as a company-supplied local map, and ensure all safety gear is present, i.e., triangles, spill kit, fire extinguishers, first aid kit.

  • Personnel assigned to dispatch will understand times expected at each stop and which driver will be doing which route. The driver is responsible for coordinating with management and dispatch for any concerns and ensure all required stops are covered.

  • Drivers shall keep a manual drivers log, as required by law, record mileage, departure time, first stop arrival, name of stop. Any discrepancies/concerns should be addressed to dispatcher or direct manager.

  • Drivers will coordinate with dispatch or direct manager if they have picked up salvage/scrap materials to ensure they understand where to deliver the materials and are NEVER to throw scrap materials in dumpsters. The driver must deliver the said materials to proper location. Scrapped material must be disposed of in accordance with established salvage procedures. 

  • Drivers and approved NGC personnel are responsible for loading and unloading trucks and ensure there is adequate blocking/bracing/strapping of loads for protection during the transit by reducing movement of product during transport. Utilize all required material handling equipment to move material safely.
