Accounting Specialist - Payroll Tax

About the role

Job Summary

This position is responsible for all bottler employer tax filings.   The scope of responsibility includes ensuring compliance and proper taxation for all bottler and employee populations.   Collaboration with tax authorities, vendors, bottler stakeholders, and BSNA Finance to resolve complex tax issues.   This role will be a subject matter resource to the bottlers and BSNA for payroll taxation.  In addition, this position will identify and implement processes that mitigate the risk of tax penalties or inaccuracies.  The Payroll Tax Accountant will focus on customer service, process improvement, and technology solutions that establish best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and file all bottler employer federal, state, and local tax returns (quarterly and annual)
  • Reconciliation and preparation of U.S. W-2’s and Canada T-4’s, T2200’s, RL-1
  • Remit all Canadian provincial taxation and workman’s compensation payment
  • Calculate and remit all payroll taxes for 7 U.S. bottlers and 1 Canadian bottler
  • Register bottlers in appropriate taxing authorities
  • Identify, test, and apply tax rates for employer and employees
  • Analyze and mitigate tax discrepancies with governing authorities
  • Establish appropriate action plans and process changes to avoid bottler tax liabilities
  • Review accuracy of all payroll and tax calendars for all required filings deadlines and assessment appeal periods.
  • File tax amendments as needed for rebates or tax credits as applicable

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead all testing and deployment of SAP support packs/BSI Tax Factory updates
  • Assist Accounting in the resolution of tax accruals and outstanding items
  • Responsible for all government and third-party tax audits
  • Develop and maintain the tax process maps and procedures documentation 
  • Identify best practices/procedures and develop recommendations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness to the overall tax compliance process
  • Monitor, respond and resolve questions/issues submitted to the property tax group e-mail box and employee salesforce inquiries
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned
  • Support role to the manager

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with concentration in Accounting or Finance,
  • Advanced degree/CPA preferred

Years of Experience

  • 3 or more years of previous experience in tax/accounting role required
  • Previous experience with W-2’s and T-4 preparation
  • Previous experience in a multistate employer tax environment required

Required Travel and Hybrid Work Environment

Travel is not expected in this job, however, employees may be asked to travel for meetings or training on occasion.

Hybrid Work Environment: Employees will be expected to work on-site a certain number of days each week and/or month at the manager’s discretion.
