The Anesthesia Pharmacy Technician at Holland Hospital is responsible for assisting the Anesthesia Team in the administration and management of anesthesia services. This role requires a licensed Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacy-related responsibilities, ensuring proper handling and dispensing of anesthetic drugs and related supplies. Under the supervision and direction of a pharmacist and/or physician, conducts a wide range of delegated technical and clerical functions necessary to support the provision of pharmacy and anesthesia products and services; supports departmental/organizational quality initiatives.

Pay Range:  $18.49 - $27.38/hour

Employment Type:  Full Time, 80 hours every 2 weeks

Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent required, Licensed Pharmacy Technician or a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) required, Minimum of 1-2 years experience in an anesthesia or pharmacy technician role in a healthcare setting required, Knowledge of anesthesia equipment and procedures required, Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for handling anesthesia equipment and medications required.

Anesthesia Support:

• Facilitates the efficiency of the daily operation of the anesthesia department
• Support anesthesiologists, CRNA's, nurses, and other members of the surgical care team related to medication needs for patients.
• Prepare and maintain anesthesia related medications and supplies.
• Assist anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in the setup and management of anesthesia procedures.
• Helps maintain accurate and timely documentation of anesthesia procedures and medication administration.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety regulations, and accreditation standards.
• Assists with cleaning and autoclaving of blades, bite blocks, and LMA's.
• Validates sterile processing process is accurate
• Ensure the availability and functionality of anesthesia machines, monitors, and related equipment.

Medication Management Support:

• Utilize pharmacy technician license to manage and dispense anesthetic medications.
• Ensure proper storage, handling, and documentation of controlled substances.
• Prepare and label medications for anesthesia according to physician orders.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and assist in the ordering of pharmaceuticals.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards related to pharmacy operations.
• Assists with Medication Management Support Activities in Accordance with Regulatory Expectations and Departmental Quality Initiatives
• Maintains good pharmacy control and security of medication and storage locations, including the pharmacy, through completion of surgery unit inspections as directed by departmental policy; evidenced by unit inspection documentation.

• Participates in quality assurance and improvement activities, including occurrence report generation.
• Supports departmental quality initiatives, patient safety, and hospital core value practices as evidence by lack of peer complaints and occurrences.
• Maintains safe medication products throughout the hospital and department by removal of outdates evidenced by documentation.
• Maintains an orderly and safe work environment through departmental cleaning and organizing and adherence to general work related polices.
• Assists pharmacy and surgery leadership in various ad hoc committees, task forces and projects to improve or maintain pharmacy and surgery services.

Daily Operation and Maintenance of System:

• Proficient in the Daily Operation and Maintenance of Automated Distribution System (Pyxis)
• Accurate in loading, unloading, refilling, outdate checking, discrepancy resolution and general maintenance of the Automated Distribution System (Pyxis) as evidenced by lack of nursing/pharmacy/peer complaints and medication occurrences.
• Maintains the daily operations of Automated Distribution System (Pyxis) in accordance with departmental polices, and practices as evidenced by competency completion.
• Prepares and distributes Automated Distribution System (Pyxis) medication in a timely manner as directed by prearranged work assignments (refill reports) or emergent reports (stock outs, refill, load, unload, etc.) as evidenced by lack of peer complaint or occurrence.
