Rapid Tooling Specialist (ONSITE/Research Triangle Park, NC)
BDAbout the role
Job Description Summary
The Rapid Tooling Specialist will demonstrate comprehensive machining techniques to facilitate in-house rapid prototyping tooling, ensuring responses within 24 hours. This involves using in-house printed tooling for final tooling and assembling mold components for prototype part sampling. The candidate must utilize CAD model tooling data to expedite in-house machining techniques, resorting to secondary prints only when necessary. This approach enables rapid machining for our BD Partners, accelerating the delivery of new concept prototype molded parts. The specialist will provide guidance and technical assistance, maintain and record historical tooling models, and process documentation using SolidWorks, Space Claim, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote, Copilot, and Outlook. They must be adept at problem-solving and self-guided in using correct mold techniques. The specialist will apply appropriate injection molding and machining applications to meet the rapid tooling needs of our BD Partners.
Responsibilities include developing accurate final tooling stack heights for mold assembly and performing subtractive machining practices using all shop equipment, such as lathes, grinders, mills, CNC machines, and precision measuring tools. The specialist will also handle material preparation, auxiliary molding equipment, and initial mold start-up for sampling rapid prototype molds. They must understand mold debugging for corrective actions before, during, and after part sampling.
The specialist will develop a thorough knowledge of BD engineering-grade resins and their properties and collaborate with outside suppliers, mold engineers, engineering personnel, and BD Partners as required. They must notify appropriate personnel of necessary maintenance for molding and machining shop (TTL) equipment, maintain a clean and safe workspace, and troubleshoot equipment failures.
