Position Summary:
This position directly supports all Schmitt Music sales and is essential to providing a superior customer experience to both external and internal customers by representing our Core Values. Serve your customer. Do what’s right, not what’s easy. Improve continuously.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Receive all incoming retail and non-retail product, including instruments, pianos/keyboards, accessories, and printed materials.
- Accurately warehouse products by type and location to ensure efficient inventory management.
- Pull and prepare products for store replenishment in accordance with schedule and priority.
- Pull and prepare products for school account deliveries as outlined by the school service team.
- Pack and ship filled customer orders using carriers such as UPS, FedEx, and USPS.
- Ensure all incoming and outgoing shipments are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment.
- Participate in periodic inventory cycle counts.
- Safely operate warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks or forklifts (if certified).
- Assist in staging or restaging product during peak seasons or events.
- Process inter-store transfers and product returns.
- Cross-train with other warehouse functions as needed.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This role requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying items. Must be able to lift and move products weighing up to 50 pounds; team lifting is expected for heavier items such as pianos or large instruments. Manual dexterity is required for handling small parts and accessories. Must be able to operate standard warehouse equipment, including pallet jacks; training provided if needed. Work is performed in a warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures depending on the season. Noise levels can vary and may include occasional use of power equipment or movement of large instruments. Requires the ability to safely navigate busy warehouse aisles and loading areas.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of musical instruments and related accessories is required; familiarity with band/orchestra and keyboard instruments is a plus.
- Previous experience in warehousing, receiving, or shipping preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform tasks such as bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in pulling and labeling product.
- Team-oriented with strong communication and time-management skills.
- Forklift certification a plus (if applicable).
