The Opportunity
As the Director of Strategic Initiatives, you will be pivotal in advancing our council’s strategic objectives. You will lead high-impact projects from ideation to implementation, focusing on strategic relationship building, community engagement, large-scale campaigns, and coalition building. Your work will directly contribute to growing and diversifying our membership, supporting our dedicated volunteers, delivering high-quality programs, and increasing investments in Girl Scouting.
This leadership role offers the unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on our organization and the communities we serve. You will work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders, including volunteers, funders, and community groups, ensuring that our initiatives are culturally competent and inclusive. As the department grows, you will oversee staff members, develop high-potential employees, and manage the department budget to align with organizational goals.
What You’ll Do
• Strategic Relationship Building: Develop and execute strategies to build and maintain relationships with diverse communities across the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Identify key opportunity areas to expand our reach and impact.
• Community Engagement: Lead culturally competent community listening sessions, facilitating engagement with existing members and creating systems for council-wide learning and leveraging.
• Campaign Leadership: Spearhead large-scale campaigns to (re-)engage key stakeholders, including but not limited to the “Once a Girl Scout, Always a Girl Scout” campaign, re-engaging over 1 million Girl Scouts of all ages. Design and implement strategies for continuous engagement, supporting volunteer, donor, and brand ambassador efforts.
• Convention Integration: Play a key role in linking strategic initiatives to the successful execution of the 2026 National Girl Scout Convention, where we will host tens of thousands of Girl Scouts from across the country.
• Diverse Communication: Ensure culturally competent communication across all interactions with volunteers, funders, and community groups.
• Data Analysis: Use data-driven insights to inform strategy and identify trends.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with council staff and internship teams, providing guidance on culturally competent programs, communications, and marketing strategies. Collaborate across the organization to advance complex projects.
• Event Management: Assist in managing on-site production for events as needed, with a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.
