About the role

This position is responsible for assisting in the operations and deployment of strategic projects globally. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties throughout the facility as assigned and or as necessary. In addition to the responsibilities below, the Project Engineer works under the Operations Manager performing routine and complex technical duties in project design, implementation and management of complex automation systems and technology integration to meet the intent of the project requirements. This includes providing detailed information, submittals, and integration plans to customers, consultants, subcontractors and the field installation team.

Employees at this level will be expected to mentor new employees at any level. The location of work for this position will primarily be in the Northeast US with the possibility of projects throughout the US and overseas.

Essential Functions: An individual must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this position with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Reviews specifications, drawings and estimates.
  • Resolves design issues through RFI's, field surveys and documentation materials tracking.
  • Participates in field startup using standard start up and checkout processes.
  • Graphic front end, human machine interface, page development.
  • Prepare pre-functional checklists and commissioning documentation.
  • Conduct commissioning activities on complex equipment and systems
  • Assists in job close out by providing final record drawings.
  • Designs software code at an intermediate level and hardware submittals of an intermediate level, or of an expert level with mentor support.
  • Create flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
  • Configure system database for reporting, alarming and monitoring of Building Automation Systems and other third-party systems.
  • Program and configure integration between multiple vendors using open and proprietary software and protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, RestAPI, MQTT, and/ or others.
  • Provide design assistance to internal team.
  • Maintain field documentation, and coordinate field markups from lower-level engineers.
  • Ability to document, demonstrate and exercise systems for third party commissioning support and testing.
  • Provide project demonstration and training as required for customers.
  • Take part in solutions-based discussions with owners and project stakeholders both inside and outside the company.
  • May assist inside/outside sales team member in RFP, scope requirements and estimating processes.
  • Support a performance-based culture, both team and individual, to assure continuous improvement and alignment with enterprise vision, mission, and objectives.
  • Support a culture based on open/honest dialogue and involvement with all team members that demonstrates the value of their input and engagement in improving performance.
  • Develop and maintains viable long-term relationships with customers, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Travel to job sites, as necessary, to ensure proper installation and development of software solutions.

Requirements

  • Engineering College or 4‐year technical (BA/BS) degree in electrical system, computer science, electronics, mechanical systems, air conditioning or related technology field and/or industry related engineering including HVAC, controller and software systems.
  • Prior experience supporting construction and field employee groups, including strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and self-initiative is preferred.
  • Familiarity with building controls hardware and network architecture and mechanical HVAC equipment is required. Experience with BACnet and Niagara-based products is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in commissioning processes and documentation in complex systems
  • Knowledgeable in basic equipment designs and systems integration processes.
  • Commitment to our “open door” policy and regular contact with all field employees.
  • Proven written and verbal communication abilities; proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
