Job Summary:
The Asset Technician supports the development, maintenance, accuracy, and usability of Culture, Parks, and Recreation Department (CPRD) asset and inventory data across parks, natural areas, trails, recreation centers, cultural facilities, golf courses, and Island Grove Regional Park. This role maintains GIS datasets and asset management records, assists with field inspections and data collection, and helps ensure amenities, equipment, and facility components are accurately documented throughout their lifecycle. The Asset Technician works closely with Parks, NAT, Recreation, Golf, UCCC, Museums, Island Grove, and Facilities teams to improve data integrity, support preventative maintenance planning, assist with capital project preparation, and strengthen operational efficiency through reliable and accessible asset information.
Experience, Education, and Skills:
Minimum Requirements
Associate’s degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a related field; OR relevant certification.
Proficiency using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related geospatial tools for mapping, analysis, and data management.
Ability to interpret maps, plans, site drawings, and asset documentation.
Understanding of spatial data concepts, coordinate systems, GPS/GNSS use, and geodatabases.
OR any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Preferred
One (1) year of experience in GIS, asset management, parks maintenance, natural areas, facility operations, or related work.
Experience with data collection tools (Field Maps, Collector, Survey123) and mobile GIS workflows.
Familiarity with parks, recreation, natural areas, trails, irrigation systems, playgrounds, or facility components.
Experience reading construction drawings or site plans.
GIS certificate or bachelor’s degree.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of GIS, spatial data management, asset management systems, and field data collection methods.
Ability to analyze data, identify patterns, and summarize trends to support operational decisions.
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills.
Competency using Microsoft Office Suite and the ESRI ecosystem; ability to learn new software and tools.
Effective communication skills with internal teams and external partners.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to shifting priorities, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across diverse teams.
Essential Functions
Maintain CPRD asset data within GIS and asset management systems, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with Citywide standards.
Create, update, and manage spatial datasets for parks, trails, natural areas, playgrounds, amenities, irrigation systems, signage, facility components, and cultural assets.
Prepare maps, dashboards, and data reports that support capital planning, inspections, budgeting, and operational decision-making.
