Commissioning Senior Engineer

The Infrastructure Directorate seeks a Senior Engineer for its Commissioning Department. This department is critical for ensuring new systems transition safely and efficiently from construction/installation to operation. The Commissioning Engineer will ensure all equipment and facilities constructed by Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS), LLC are installed correctly and function as expected.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate commissioning team efforts, collaborating with other project stakeholders.
• Oversee commissioning and testing activities, including all physical and administrative operations, tasks, services, and maintenance, to ensure efficient project delivery within schedule.
• Contribute to the development of failure analysis reports, commissioning reports, test procedures, test plans, and activity-level work documents.
• Develop and update project commissioning plans to reflect technical modifications and ensure quality results.
• Schedule test activities, including establishing prerequisite conditions.
• Validate and verify project requirements through documented deliverables.
• Identify risks and develop mitigation plans.
• Participate in regulatory investigations, corrective action plans, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure work consistently complies with relevant laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees
  • Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Or, for Architects, Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board (NCARB)
  • Or Professional Engineer license
• Plus at least 5 years’ relevant experience. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge; graduate research experience may be recognized.
• Familiarity with the DOE Commissioning Process.
• Experience with project design reviews.
• Experience with electrical or mechanical installation.
• Experience with project-required testing.
• Experience with system turnover to operations/end-users.
• Experience designing, testing, and maintaining nuclear or industrial systems.
• Experience with common test equipment (e.g., Oscilloscopes, DMMs, Hardness Testers, Torque Gauges, Micrometers).
• Ability to resolve equipment or process-related issues.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
• Familiarity with Department of Energy (DOE) regulations and requirements related to asset management and facility operations is preferred.
• The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
• Work schedule for this position will be 4/10s, Monday-Thursday (subject to change).
• Pre-placement physical examination, including a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy with random drug testing.
