About the role

Primary Purpose

The HVACR Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) systems to ensure safe and efficient operation of district facilities. This position will specifically support the Child Nutrition team by maintaining climate control and refrigeration systems essential for food service operations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (Technical or trade school preferred)
  • Minimum 3�5 years of field experience in HVACR installation, repair, and maintenance
  • Valid HVACR license/certification as required by state and federal regulations
  • EPA certification for refrigerant handling
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with a good driving record

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong knowledge of HVACR systems, including installation, troubleshooting, and repair
  • Ability to install electrical components and wiring for HVACR systems
  • Knowledge of refrigeration requirements for food storage and conservation
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local regulations regarding refrigerant recovery, recycling, and disposal
  • Skilled in reading technical manuals, blueprints, and system specifications
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Installation & Maintenance

  • Install, maintain, and repair HVACR systems, equipment, and controls
  • Install electrical components and wiring related to HVACR systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance to ensure efficiency and extend equipment lifespan

Inspection & Troubleshooting

  • Inspect and test HVACR systems and components for proper functioning
  • Troubleshoot and analyze system malfunctions to determine corrective actions
  • Repair or replace worn, defective, or outdated parts

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all regulations regarding the conservation, recovery, and recycling of refrigerants
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of fluids, pressurized gases, and refrigerants
  • Maintain compliance with safety codes, standards, and district policies

Record Keeping & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, repairs, and preventive maintenance
  • Recommend improvements and report system deficiencies to the supervisor
  • Assist in planning for equipment replacement or upgrades

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, high noise levels, and potentially hazardous materials
  • Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and climbing
  • On-call duty and irregular hours may be required, including evenings and weekends

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policies and procedures.

Works 260 Day Calendar

*Salary is commensurate with experience
*Minimum Salary $43,909
* This position requires on-site, in-person work and does not offer remote work options.
