Job Description

  • Identify, research, and track emerging risks and trends that may impact the P/C industry, and then author and publish articles with quantitative insights on the website along with other Emerging Issues deliverables. 
  • Conduct independent research, often in collaboration with our internal subject matter experts (SME) and lines of business.  
  • Mine information data sources and streams include white papers, government reports, scientific studies, news articles , and social media posts for relevant trends.  
  • Expertise with data visualization tools, including geospatial mapping, required.
  • Identify correlations among available datasets, proxies for risk, and indicators of exposure.   
  • Develop and maintain internal and customer-facing data dashboards.  
  • Analyze internal data to identify where emerging issues data may provide value.  
  • Create new datasets to support the product development of data tools for customers.  
  • Develop and enhance insurance and analytical skills or educational skill sets related to emerging risks, risk management, and similar areas. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. 
  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience in data journalism
  • Exemplary written communication skills with proven authoring ability.  Can convey technical findings in a non-technical way.
  • Expertise with data visualization tools, including geospatial mapping, preferred. 
  • Excellent oral communication skills, and able to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • An understanding of insurance and risk management.  
  • Active pursuit of CPCU and/or Actuarial designation or other insurance education preferred.  
  • Has business analytical skills.  
  • Can think creatively and critically.  
  • Proficiency in the use of database programs is preferred.  
  • Can design, develop, implement , and maintain a database and manage data analysis efforts.  
  • Can use tools and technologies to analyze both structured and unstructured data, preferred.  
  • Ability to implement data mining techniques on large data sets and can innovate with multiple data sets preferred.  
  • Proficiency in Word, Power Point, strong Excel, and analytical skills. 
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task.  
  • Attention to detail.  
  • Project management skills.  
  • Ability to set and meet commitments in a high production environment to achieve tight timeliness deadlines and quality expectations.
