The group Manager, Chief Software Development Officer will play a pivotal role in transforming the TFS Chief Product Officer (CPO) organization with a holistic approach, covering software engineering management systems, software development strategy, major platform assessments, redesigns, and solutioning, software development lifecycle (SDLC) and tools, and guiding the technical development of TFS’s prioritized OKRs/Initiatives, with close partnership with many different stakeholders in TFS and broader Toyota. This role is expected to act as a partner and strategic advisor for CPO and to engage and influence senior business leaders to drive transformation needed to build/rebuild the structure and management systems needed to modernize our software engineering organization and enable sustainable platforms for the future.

This multifaceted role combines executive-level support, cross-organization interactions, strategies and requirements, SDLC risk and compliance, program and project management, financial management and vendor management support as expected by central Finance functions and execution quality ensuring alignment with business strategies and objectives and driving optimization of technology delivery investments.

  • Responsible for the successful execution of major software development projects across TFS’s complex IT environment.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in delivering large enterprise solutions and sophisticated web applications with a customer experience focus, ensuring alignment with business needs and user expectations.
  • Develop and oversee TFS’s software engineering processes and delivery management systems, including optimizing TFS’s engineering methodologies / best practices, building and nurturing a high-performing software engineering organization, and improving technology integrations across platforms, tools, and applications.
  • Collaborate with Product Strategy, Portfolio Management, and Business Systems Analysis teams to enable precise alignment of application delivery with business requirements, ensuring both functionality and strategic value.
  • Manage the end-to-end build (concept to execution) of scalable, custom software applications, including integrations with 3rd party solutions, and enhancing existing development frameworks to create comprehensive, tailored solutions.
  • Establish effective processes for implementing and managing COTS applications, ensuring seamless integration and functionality.
  • Build in-house expertise and skillsets for COTS management, alongside maintaining strong relationships with vendors for product roadmap alignment and ongoing maintenance.
  • Design and rebuild TFS’s high-priority capabilities and platforms, ensuring long-term sustainability, efficiency, value, and customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for oversight of 200+ developers (vendors and team members) in the product organization.
  • Responsible for an annual budget of $50MM+.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or IT / Technology / Engineering.
  • 15+ years of leadership, enterprise technology and operation experience, including:
    • Extensive industry experience in software delivery – Spearheaded and successfully executed numerous global software projects.
    • Experience in leading major enterprise technology transformations.
    • Senior Leadership experience at a major web-scale company (ex: Google, Meta, etc.)
  • Extensive experience in enterprise technologies and solutions, SDLC methodology and implementation (planning, analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance), and technology delivery governance and controls.
  • Ability to translate enterprise level strategic planning information into technology strategy, roadmap, and execution.
  • Change management and organizational transformation experience.
  • Executive level communication skills including strong negotiation/facilitation/presentation skills.
  • Senior Leadership qualities, including organizational, people and performance management (managing teams, organizational dynamics, and performance metrics).
  • Highly proficient in budget management
