About the role
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
As a Manufacturing Engineering Leader at Project Kuiper, you will be directly responsible for leading the supply chain manufacturing of Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBA) that go into our next generation Low Earth Orbit LEO satellite. You will utilize innovative solutions and cutting-edge technology to solve difficult manufacturing and engineering problems on a daily basis, across multiple stakeholders teams (internal & external). You will play a critical role between the production, development, testing, supply chain and quality teams, and lead PCBA production with Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) and Contract Manufacturing (CM) PCBA/PCB suppliers. You will lead teams that provide vital manufacturability input to the design engineering teams for both new and existing hardware. Finally, you will be responsible for standing up teams that will develop/implement new processes, equipment, and assembly lines to support Kuiper’s aggressive production ramp, making data-driven decisions at each step in the process.
Key job responsibilities
- Use knowledge and experience in understanding, collaborating, and trading complex inputs from multiple other disciplines (Electrical, RF, Optics, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Tooling, Assembly, and Test) to guide the team and drive PCBA manufacturing solutions.
- Material flow planning and manufacturing process definition build, inspection & test.
- Develop manufacturing processes
- Supplier management of PCBA manufacturing
- Value stream lead on Design for X (Fabrication, Assembly, Cost and Test)
- Manufacturing review and sign off for design release
- Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A day in the life
This role will require a thorough understanding of PCBA manufacturing processes. You will own manufacturing processes for transitioning into a production environment. This is a hands-on role for a highly collaborative individual that combines superb technical and analytical capabilities to optimizing PCB fabrication/assembly procedures for development and production.
This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality and cost. We want individuals who are ready for this challenge and want to reach beyond what is possible today.
