Starting salary for adjuncts is: $40.83 - $86.87 per contract hour based on workload category.  Terms of adjunct contracts include preparing for and meeting classes at scheduled class times and completing required paperwork and trainings.

SCC invites individuals to apply to a talent pool for potential adjunct opportunities. When a hiring need arises for an ABE adjunct position, we review the applicants in the pool and contact selected candidates. If no hiring need is identified, the pool will not be reviewed.

This is a pool for an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. Spokane Colleges reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Academic employees are represented by the Association for Higher Education (AHE), which is affiliated with NEA and WEA. Membership is optional.

About the Adult Basic Education Instructor - Adjunct - Spokane Community College

Spokane Community College (SCC) seeks qualified candidates for adjunct (part-time) Adult Education Instructors. These positions support adult learners in the following programs:

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides basic skills instruction to adults in subject areas including reading, writing, and math for college and career readiness;
  • Assesses, monitors, and documents student performance and advises students in meeting their educational goals.
  • Assignments can include distance education modes of instruction;
  • Proctors CASAS and/or other required assessments;
  • Maintains student records;
  • Completes paperwork required of the (ABE) Division to include: enrollments, WABERS, and attendance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution combined with relevant teaching experience.
  • Ability to use technology for instruction purposes.
  • Support and advance the Spokane Colleges strategic plan and perform other duties as assigned. *

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to assess adult student learning.
  • Experience teaching adults.
  • Knowledge of a learning management system such as CANVAS.
