About the role
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Finance management team and has a new opportunity for a Manager Financial Accounting. This position plays an integral role in the delivery of timely, accurate, and insightful financial information to management and stakeholders. The Manager, Financial Accounting leads and mentors a team of accountants and provides oversight to ensure timely and efficient execution of the monthly accounting close process, including review of monthly journal entries, cost accounting allocations, account reconciliations, intercompany transactions and related eliminations.

Compensation
$112,800 - $134,000
Exempt Grade 18

The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.
What you’ll do
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for BCBSKS and its subsidiaries in compliance with GAAP through development and support of systematic review processes and procedures in a dynamic environment.
- Assess, develop and implement accounting procedures, and internal control activities to enhance efficiency and accuracy in assigned process areas.
- Handle accounting for government business (FEP, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D) as well as specialized lines of business such as Blue Card and our pharmacy benefit manager Prime.
- Manage the General ledger and Chart of Accounts to enable accurate tracking, reporting, and analyses of financial transactions.
- Assist as needed, with technical accounting research focused on contract review for significant matters and other complex transactions arising from emerging and growing business activities.
- Assist the external financial reporting team in the preparation of periodic regulatory filings and annual audit process coordination, including preparation of supporting schedules, analyses, external documentations, and audit requests
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, initiate and lead special projects designed to improve accounting processes within the Finance organization.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of accounting activities and initiatives with broader organizational goals and objectives.
What you need
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field required
- 5 years of progressive experience in financial accounting, cost/management accounting, accounting or related field
- 3 years leadership experience required
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience preparing financial statements and managing a financial close process.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; experience with Workday, SAP or Oracle preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- High level of integrity and strong attention to detail.
