Instrument Support Engineer Lead

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Instrument Support Engineer IV / Lead is responsible for the service and support of laboratory equipment and instrumentation utilized in the Operations laboratory. The scope of support includes installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of both simple (e.g., plate sealers) and complex (e.g., liquid handling robotics) instrumentation in the laboratory. They will support the Equipment Supervisor in the day to day support of the QC Equipment team, who provides support to production lab personnel when equipment and instruments are not operating or not meeting operational specifications.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Highly Competent at applying technical knowledge to implement, diagnose, service, and complete preventative maintenance on new and existing automation and sequencing instrumentation to provide Level 3 support for all laboratory equipment.
- Highly Competent at training new hires, completing NCRs, CAPAs, and assists in the implementation of new process changes.
- Supports development of workflow troubleshooting and procedure improvements
- Maintains consistent communication with appropriate Automation team members to maintain/troubleshoot existing equipment, introduce new equipment, and establish/re-evaluate appropriate maintenance schedules to reflect usage of the equipment.
- Independently represent equipment team in internal or external Equipment-related meetings and provide appropriate updates to management and team.
- Go to person on the Lab floor, provides guidance to Team Members.
- Coordinate with Team to ensure that urgent tickets are addressed in a timely manner.
- Delegate tasks to Team as needed
- Escalates issues and team concerns to supervisor and/or manager and provide possible solutions.
- Escalates any discrepancies of team members’ performance to supervisor
- Provides feedback during performance evaluations for team members
- Assists Supervisor in the collection of data to maintain team level metrics, investigations troubleshooting
- Meets regularly with the Supervisor
- Keeps team morale up and maintains professionalism of team members, including by acting as a role model
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Adheres to Departmental Expectations
- Adherence to CLIA/CAP/ISO13485 regulations as it pertains to instrumentation and equipment
- This role works with PHI on a regular basis both in paper and electronic form and have access to various technologies to access PHI (paper and electronic) in order to perform the job
- Employee must complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training and security training as soon as possible but not later than the first 30 days of hire.
- Must maintain a current status on Natera training requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS/BA in a biological science/biomedical engineering, similar field of study, or comparable industry experience
- 3-5 years industry related experience
- Proven experience supporting automation and sequencing instrumentation required

- Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Knowledge of DNA Isolation and Purification, PCR, Cell Culture, Sequencing, etc.
- Experience with Tecan automation, Hamilton automation, and Illumina sequencing instrumentation
