Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship Director
Position Overview:
The Department of Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled, adaptable, and experienced Emergency Medicine Physician to join our faculty as the Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship Director. This role combines clinical excellence with a commitment to global health, education, leadership, and academic productivity. The ideal candidate will have a passion for advancing emergency care worldwide, global EM fellowship training or equivalent experience, and a proven track record in both clinical practice and academic leadership.
Vanderbilt’s Global Emergency Medicine Division has a long-standing successful academic partnership with Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in Georgetown, Guyana, primarily focusing on EM systems development, EM residency education, pre-hospital systems development and bedside ultrasound training. In addition, the division is anticipating a new partnership in Maputo, Mozambique.

Key Responsibilities:
- Fellowship Leadership:
- Oversee and direct the Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship program, ensuring it aligns with the highest standards of medical education and global health practices.
- Mentor and support fellows in their academic and professional growth, providing guidance on research projects, global health quality improvement initiatives, and clinical skills.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements and maintain the program's standing as a leader in global emergency medicine.
- Attend VUMC GME monthly program director’s meetings
- Attend and actively participate in SAEM’s Global EM Fellowship Consortium monthly meetings
- Clinical Practice:
- Provide high-quality emergency care in a busy and dynamic emergency department, contributing to the clinical teaching of residents and medical students.
- Serve as a clinical leader, modeling best practices in patient care, teamwork, and emergency medicine protocols.
- Global Health Initiatives:
- Expand our established academic partnership with Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in Georgetown, Guyana.
- Assist in developing the anticipated partnership in Maputo, Mozambique, focusing on similar goals of capacity building, EM residency education and emergency care system strengthening.
- Lead or participate in global health endeavors, focusing on capacity building, emergency care system strengthening, education and health equity.
- Expand partnerships and collaboration within Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health.
- Research and Scholarship:
- Promote and contribute to research in global emergency medicine, including securing grant funding, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at national and international conferences.
- Encourage and support fellows in their research endeavors, fostering a culture of inquiry and evidence-based practice.
- Educational Outreach:
- Design and implement educational programs and workshops for healthcare professionals globally, aimed at improving emergency care in resource-limited settings.
- Participate in public speaking engagements, webinars, and other forums to advocate for global health initiatives and emergency medicine education.
