West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute and the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry in the WVU School of Medicine seek a Clinical Health Psychologist qualified for appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank. The successful candidate will practice in Morgantown, WV.
Duties: The successful candidate will practice in the area of Clinical Health Psychology. The successful candidate will have a background in inter-relationships among behavioral, emotional, cognitive, social, and biological components in health and disease to the promotion and maintenance of health; the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of illness and disability; and the improvement of the health care system. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. The candidate will be involved in our well-known, training-focused APA-accredited clinical psychology internship in our Behavioral Medicine Track, and our Clinical Health Psychology-Bariatric Fellowship. The position will also include research responsibilities.
Regarding clinical duties, clinical opportunities may include: Bariatric Surgery/Medical Weight Management (i.e., intervention for patients pre- and post-operatively and for individuals to support weight loss goals); Pain Management (e.g., evaluations for candidacy for opioids or implantable devices, treatment within integrated pain center); Evaluation prior to medical testing or procedures (i.e., provision of evaluations prior to pursuing genetic testing or prior to other medical procedures); Behavioral Sleep Medicine; Intervention for individuals with functional neurological disorders/ conversion disorder; Evidence-based Treatment for individuals with complex comorbid psychiatric, psychosocial, and chronic health conditions, as well as health promotion and disease management. We hope to expand Behavioral Medicine services into additional integrated medical clinics across the Health System. Candidates with additional areas of interest and expertise within Health Psychology are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD or PsyD in clinical psychology from an APA/CPA-accredited graduate program with an APA/CPA-approved internship and be eligible for state licensure. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
Within the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, there is a strong collaborative focus on clinical service, teaching, and scholarship among psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers. Additionally, faculty frequently collaborate with other medical school departments. The department strongly encourages professional development with support/mentoring for development of clinical services, improved teaching/training, and scholarship.
