BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This entry level professional services position is responsible for assisting day-to-day activities of the stormwater engineering team in the Bureau of Land Resources (BLR). The team is primarily responsible for the implementation of the DEP’s “Stormwater Management Rules (Chapter 500)” and reviewing land development projects requiring DEP permits. This position will review the stormwater management plans and systems proposed for the land development projects. The position will undertake compliance activities ensuring that the stormwater management systems are installed, operated, and maintained as approved by the DEP permits. The position will routinely interact with the applicants/permittees, their representatives, and BLR project managers.
BLR will provide professional society memberships and other professional development opportunities for the position. This position will be overseen by the environmental engineers of the team, as required, and supervised by the team leader, a senior environmental engineer.
Other job duties include:
- Conducting project reviews in a timely fashion
- Evaluating stormwater problems and communicating solutions to DEP staff, contractors, and landowners
- Assisting with the training activities and workshops
- Participating in the pre-application, pre-submission meetings for the land development projects

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Sanitary, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or related Engineering field. Related experience may be substituted for education.
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: For non-engineering college graduates and non-degreed candidates: Certification of Engineer Intern as issued by the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and/or experience:
- Excellent time management, communication skills and experience working within tight timelines.
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices pertaining to the management of stormwater (e.g., stormwater modeling, computer aided design and drafting).
- Familiarity with the stormwater related environmental laws and rules.
- Experience in geographic information system and surveying.
