Job Description

The Welding Subject Matter Expert (SME) leads the management and development of the global Community of Practice (CoP) within the discipline of welding including conventional welding of superalloys, metallurgical understanding, robotic and auto welding with knowledge of welding equipment and automation technologies with electron beam welding experience a plus. Provides both technical and managerial oversight across the technical enterprise working with the local site leadership, regional management and global functional leadership teams. Ensuring welding technical bench strength exists at all levels, supporting the development of technology focused projects through to the production phase and leveraging technical knowledge in one or more areas. Lead and develop solutions, integrating and collating technical expertise, robust problem-solving methodologies and fostering a culture of innovation improving the performance of Chromalloy. Develop a global network of like-minded experts supporting the organization to deliver best practice solutions, technical training and rapid problem resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop our global Community of Practice (CoP) in welding, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices.
  • Provide technical and managerial oversight, collaborating with local site leadership, regional management, and global teams.
  • Support the development of technology-focused projects from inception to production, leveraging your welding expertise.
  • Develop innovative solutions, integrate technical expertise, and foster a culture of innovation to enhance Chromalloy's performance.
  • Build a global network of experts, facilitating the delivery of best practices, technical training, and rapid problem resolution.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, or other relevant engineering discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience guiding a distributed technical team in aerospace or industrial gas turbine engine superalloy welding.
  • Knowledge of automation and robotic welding.
  • Breadth of experience and knowledge across multiple welding styles.
  • Successful delivery of projects and technology initiatives valued at $1 million or more.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for technical and production issues.
  • Experience leading technology development projects to full production capability.
  • Strategic planning skills, aligning technology projects with company goals and emerging trends.
  • Engaging with external organizations and representing the company at universities and governing bodies.
  • This position requires US citizenship or permanent resident status since duties and tasks may include the review and/or analysis of information and technical data subject to certain restrictions regarding export, use, and disclosure including without limitation those included in the US Export Administration Regulations (15 CFR, Chapter VII, Subchapter C).
