Summary
The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering (CEGE) at Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech) invites applications and
nominations for a faculty position at the instructional track, assistant teaching
professor level with expertise in structural engineering. Michigan Tech CEGE is searching for outstanding candidates who can add to the existing teaching strengths in multiple research areas.

Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses focusing on asynchronous, online courses. Advise coursework-only online students. Direct our online structural engineering M.S. and graduate certificate programs.
Contribute to Department, University, and external professional service
activities. Integrate safety practices into daily activities and commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
A Ph.D. in civil engineering, structural engineering, or closely related field and the ability to obtain PE and/or SE licensure within 3 years;
– OR –
A combination of M.S. in civil engineering, structural engineering, or closely related field and possession of PE and/or SE licensure.
Required Experience
Evidence of at least 2 years of industry structural analysis and design experience.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
Earned doctorate in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a closely related field.
Online and face-to-face teaching experience, at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in their area of expertise.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Strong oral communication skills with experience in public speaking and strong professional written communication skills.
Expertise in civil-structural engineering.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
The ability to teach asynchronous online engineering courses in structural engineering topic areas.
The ability to develop new courses at the graduate level in structural engineering topics.
Competence with commercial structural analysis and design software.
Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.
Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills
Work Environment and/or Physical Demands
The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
