This position is a temporary position of 4 months (approx. Feb – May 2024)

Purpose

Under supervision of the principal investigator and the research team, the research assistant will assist in a prospective cohort study involving a social needs screening tool within the Dell Seton Medical Center Emergency Department. We are assessing the ability of this tool to identify patients who have difficulty with follow-up with primary care physicians. This is an excellent, paid opportunity for undergraduate or recently graduated students interested in healthcare and/or public health.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, consent, and administer the social needs screening tool to patients within the Emergency Department. Note: To ensure a random sample, this may involve intermittent recruitment on nights and/or weekends.

  • Participate in regular meetings and email communication with team’s medical students, ED staff, and PI Dr. Altillo about the study’s progress.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. Strong oral communication skills. Attention to detail. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual in English and Spanish. Prior experience in research and/or patient care settings.

Salary Range

$15.00/hour + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished).

  • May work around standard office conditions.

  • May work around biohazards.

  • Occasional weekend, overtime and evening work to meet deadlines.
