Research Assistant I
Job Description:Technical performance and development of assays as needed: processing of human samples, (peripheral blood, saliva, bronchial alveolar lavage), mouse handling, manipulation and tissue harvesting, immunological assays (e.g. Luminex), molecular biology assays), protein assays (e.g. western blot), immunohistochemistry, and microscopy This also includes preventative maintenance on all equipment.
Under supervision of Scientific Laboratory Manager and/or the principal investigator, work with clinical coordinators to ensure maintenance of a sample repository and experimental data databases using laboratory data management systems (LDMS), EPIC, and RedCap.
Under supervision of Scientific Laboratory Manager and/or the principal investigator, be responsible for the training of technical procedures and / or overseeing trainees in the Maile Lab, including medical students, undergraduates, graduate students.
Under supervision of the principal investigator, perform a collaborative research project and present the results at Scientific Meetings.
Under supervision of Scientific Laboratory Manager and/or the principal investigator accurate record keeping of mouse colonies, laboratory supplies, Controlled Substances, and instrument maintenance.
Under supervision of Scientific Laboratory Manager and/or the principal investigator ensure compliance with federal regulations within the laboratory (e.g. DEA, NIH, EHS, IACUC, IRB).
Other duties as assigned.
Expected Salary:$16.75 - $22.00 / hour
Minimum Requirements:A bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A high school diploma and two years of experience working in a research or clinical laboratory. Appropriate college course work or vocational/ technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with molecular biology and animal handling techniques and regulatory entities listed. Experience with Microsoft word and excel.
