The Senior Director of Development reports to the Territory Executive Director and is responsible for fundraising as a generalist on behalf of the university in support of key priorities.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Focus on the acquisition, retention, and reacquisition of prospects ($250,000+) in the assigned territory, primarily focusing on unrestricted giving. Qualify and cultivate donors with the goal of increasing the donor’s support to major gift levels. Conduct city meetings to make sure all University Advancement staff members in the territory (Individual Giving RSE, ACE, PG, PrG) are driving toward mutual success.
- Work closely with the Territory Executive Director in the Development Vertical to meet the fundraising priorities of the Danforth Campus schools, programs, university priorities, and university initiatives. Work closely and collaboratively with Principal Gifts, Engagement Officers, Planned Giving, Strategy Officers, Prospect Management, Donor Relations Officers, and Regional and Special Events.
- Oversee at least one Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) in the division with travel expectations of 25% of time.
- Help to create and foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork that celebrates outcomes, build individual and team capacity, and ensure that WashU University Advancement is a preferred workplace.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to work effectively within a complex organization across multiple units dealing with diverse constituents (school deans, administrators, alumni, students, university-wide advancement staff and key volunteers) toward development objectives and building effective working relationships.
