As a safety sensitive position, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug and alcohol regulations is required, including but not limited to pre-employment drug testing and background screening.

Entergy has entered into an agreement to sell its Louisiana gas distribution business to Bernhard Capital Partners.

The sale is expected to close in approximately the third quarter of 2025.  Entergy has no planned reduction in workforce as a result of this sale, and intends to operate the business as usual prior to the sale.

 

A. JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Under directive supervision, with little latitude for planning or laying out working details, must be able to fabricate piping system, must be able to perform the fitting and welding of pipe, fittings, having the skill, training, or experience to drive light and heavy trucks with or without trailer; operate equipment and machinery, perform pipe work in the construction and maintenance of gas distribution system and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned:

 

  1. All duties of a Pipeman Welder 3d Class.
  2. Respond to emergency gas situations taking control of the scene, establishing safety perimeter and evacuation zone, determine procedure and perform safe gas shutdown.
  3. Weld hot taps on steel mains for lateral mains and services.
  4. Weld pressure control fittings on steel mains and know how to set up and operate pressure control equipment.
  5. Assist in planning, laying out, leading, training, and directing all work and crews in a safe and efficient manner.
  6. Work closely with state, parish, city, other utilities, and contractors to ensure proper and safe excavation practices are performed around gas facilities.
  7. Demonstrate the required knowledge, skills and abilities on specific covered task of the position for the purpose of complying with Department of Transportation, Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration.

 

B. EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have worked for two years and qualified as Pipeman Welder 3rd Class - Gas Department, or have had equivalent experience in related work.
  2. Must be certified for welding in accordance with Part 192.227 -Transportation of Natural and Other Gases by Pipeline: Minimum Safety Standard Appendix C - Qualification of Welders for low stress level pipe and in accordance with procedures outlined in Gas Department Welding Standard Procedure Specification G 1, E 1, and E 2.
  3. Have knowledge of the Gas Distribution System and of operating and maintenance practices, including procedures for restoring service.
  4. Have a working knowledge of principles and practices of mechanical drawing, strength of materials, and general mathematics as related to his work.
  5. Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License
  6. Have thorough knowledge of city and state traffic laws including regulations regarding the hauling of heavy equipment, trailers, etc.
  7. Know city streets, and roads in rural sections.
  8. Able to identify abnormal operating conditions
  9. Know Company’s safety rules and be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation and be able to render practical first aid.
  10. Must have the ability to acquire and maintain skills required as technology evolves (examples such as, accessing electronic mapping information, collecting and interpreting electronic pipe locating and leak detection information.)

 

C. PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to detect presence of natural gas.
  2. Must have full use of mental and physical faculties.
  3. Must have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.

 

D. PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Be particularly alert in observing hazards, abnormal operating conditions, and avoiding accidents.
  2. Be willing to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
  3. Be able to receive and transmit orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of superiors and co-workers.
