The Teaching Assistant Substitute position will be available starting in the Fall 2023. Teaching Assistant Substitutes work at the Anderson School located in Andover, MA. This “substitute” position is not a full or part time position, but rather provides classroom coverage for other Teaching Assistant who cannot be at work. This is a year-round position that as a “substitute” will work only on agreed upon days on a Monday – Friday basis between the hours of 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. The Anderson School calendar is like the public-school year calendar, with an additional 4-week summer session. Creativity, flexibility, and ability to multi-task are key skills for this role. Candidates should be comfortable working in a team environment with the ability to take initiative and direction as needed.

The Teaching Assistant Substitute works closely with the Special Education Teacher in a classroom of approximately 5 students (ages 3-12) who have multiple disabilities, moderate to severe developmental delays, and complex medical needs. Responsibilities include assisting our special education teachers and school therapists with implementation of IEP goals and objectives, as well as helping with classroom activities and maintaining a clean and neat classroom environment. This position will support the physical and minimal health needs of our students which may include lifting, positioning, seating, feeding, toileting/diapering, and mobility.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent 
• Demonstrated ability and interest in working with students ages 3 to 12 in a special education classroom setting
• Experience with young children with significant special needs preferred 
• Hold/willing to obtain and maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications
• Must be able to sit, bend, kneel, and lift 25 lbs. 
• This position requires the completion of a suitable background check including fingerprinting
