About the role

-

The Regional Plant Controller is a key leader on multiple plant leadership teams - Auburn, AL and Statesboro, GA for our Power business unit. They are a business partner to plant managers - helping to identify opportunities for productivity improvement, waste elimination, and efficient use of inventory - while maintaining a strong control environment. 

 

The role contributes to all areas of plant management and provides strong financial leadership. It will advise on major decisions, build and develop the plant financial team, be responsible for creating financial analysis for decision support, aide in creating capital requests, support cycle counting and inventory management, be responsible for journal entries and reconciliations in the plant, and work with plant management team to explain results on a daily/weekly/annual basis. Additionally, as the financial leader at the plants you’ll be a key resource for the corporate finance team and Director Finance Operations as well. 

 

You will do this by:

  • Being a strategic business partner to the plant managers, focusing on financial levers, productivity and cost savings opportunities to move the business forward.
  • Leading month end close in the plant, generating journal entries and reconciliations, and facilitating the plant management teams in explaining month end results.
  • Proactively engaging with the teams at the plant to ensure proper controls are in place and that the financial results are GAAP compliant.  
  • Continuously working to improve reporting, data analysis tools, procedures and controls.
  • Proactively leading the plant in identifying and driving opportunities for inventory efficiencies.  Reviewing bills of materials, tracking substitutions, aiding in establishing cycle count procedures, auditing cycle counts and physical inventories.  
  • Providing  reporting on inventory adjustments, scrap, days on hand and other measurement tools as needed.  Continuously leading efforts to have the right levels of inventory at the right time.
  • Creating financial tools at the plant level to help support decisions made by plant leadership. 
  • Leading the capital request process by ensuring that the request considers all expenses, potential alternatives, ROI and has a specific scope, timeline and purpose.
  • Leading the plant budgeting process and the setting of standard costs.  
  • Leading and educating the team on the budget process, providing analysis, loading the budget, calculating and load standards, explaining YOY differences.
  • Managing internal and external audit requests at the plant level.
  • Engaging with the plant team members to both learn and teach.  Coach and/or mentor plant finance analyst, continually look for education opportunities, engage in plant events (continuous improvement project, NPD projects, Safety initiatives, etc) and constantly look for opportunities to educate and learn.
  • Engaging with the other plant controllers, corporate finance/accounting and other corporate functions to standardize processes and procedures, suggest improvements and share insights.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
  • At least 10 years of experience in accounting/finance field
  • At least 5 years of cost accounting experience
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Prior leadership experience
  • Ability to split time between Auburn, AL and Statesboro, GA plant locations

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a large, complex global organization
  • Public accounting experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA)

 

Additional Knowledge & Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of general accounting functions as well as cost accounting and standard cost setting; familiarity with profit & loss analysis, as well as standard operations and capital budgeting
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of analysis techniques that assist in report preparation for decision-making purposes
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in supporting and consulting with the group/business unit and/or in guiding and directing the work of accounting teams
  • Strong analytical skills, decision making and organizational skills in relation to managing multiple pro
