About Alumni Affairs and Development
The Cornell Alumni Affairs and Development team advances the university's mission through lifelong engagement and philanthropy, encouraging alumni and families to give, lead, and serve. The U.S. Regional Alumni Engagement team focuses on increasing alumni participation in Cornell programs and supports regional clubs and associations in the U.S. and Canada. They work to strengthen alumni ties to the university, foster lifelong learning, and provide financial support for various initiatives. This role involves collaboration with the U.S. Regional Engagement team, including staff in the Northeast Corridor and on the West Coast.
The Opportunity
The Cornell Alumni Affairs and Development team leads efforts in higher education advancement by promoting lifelong engagement and philanthropy. Their mission is to support Cornell's goals by offering opportunities for alumni, friends, and families to contribute, lead, and serve. Through their work, they strengthen connections within the Cornell community and encourage meaningful involvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support for the Office of Alumni Affairs, including support for regional presidential events and core planning team activities.
- Assist with event coordination and logistics, including Reunion weekend, Homecoming, and occasional travel for events.
- Support evening teleconferencing and videoconferencing meetings when needed.
- Schedule and organize meetings for various constituencies, from one-on-one to division-wide, and maintain up-to-date email lists.
- Coordinate travel arrangements for speakers and plan trips, including agendas, contacts, and preparations.
- Handle phone and email inquiries from internal and external audiences, and maintain office files, data, and communication materials.
- Train and support volunteers on using iModules, and maintain and update webpages for regional engagement initiatives.
- Create and implement regular newsletter communications, blogs, and relevant content for regional volunteers and communities.
- Provide support for communication, event planning, program registration, and online presence for U.S. Regional Alumni Engagement.
- Assist in the coordination of on-campus and off-campus events, conferences, programs, reunions, and retreats.
- Create registration pages, assist with email communications, and provide data reporting and analysis to inform programming.
- Serve as a secondary contact for club and association volunteers.
- Engage in personal and professional development by attending relevant training programs and staying current with technologies and methodologies.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to further department goals.
- Complete university-required compliance training and perform other duties as assigned.
What We Need

- High School Diploma and 2 to 4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, databases, networked informational systems, internet, and communication systems.
- Ability to professionally represent U.S. Regional Engagement, its organizations, and fundraising campaigns, handling situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Strong attention to detail with a flexible and adaptable approach.
- Experience working with volunteers and diverse work styles to achieve success.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal cross-functional teams and external groups in a high-performance environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to changes.
- Administrative support experience, particularly in event planning and coordination.
- Willingness to work during special events such as Reunion weekend, Homecoming, and occasional travel.
- Experience with scheduling meetings, coordinating travel, and organizing conference calls and video meetings.
- Marketing and communications skills, including experience with digital platforms like iModules, website maintenance, and newsletter creation.
- Ability to support program operations, event planning, registration, data reporting, and volunteer coordination.
- Commitment to personal and professional development, including staying current with emerging technologies and methodologies.
- Willingness to participate in university-required compliance training and other projects as needed.
