Job Description
The Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Continuous Integration Continuous Deployment (CICD) and Embedded Software Development Tools Group. As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in DevOps and configuration management, you will play a crucial role in supporting our OPTIMUS platform with build and test capabilities to support GM’s embedded software production. OPTIMUS is a cloud-based platform which provides integrated virtual workspaces, integration with test environments, and continuous visibility into software quality.
What You’ll Do:
- Establish and enforce standards for repository governance, branching strategy, artifact management, secrets handling, workflow reuse, and build environment consistency.
- Drive platform reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence across GitHub, Artifactory, Azure, cloud agents, developer environments, and supporting applications.
- Partner with product, IT infrastructure, site reliability, and security stakeholders to deliver new capabilities, resolve systemic issues, and modernize the embedded software development experience.
- Create/maintain monitors for platform and build health using dashboards and quality metrics, and implement actions that improve developer productivity, build efficiency, and software quality.
- Design, develop, and maintain automation pipelines for embedded software production on the OPTIMUS platform.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement best practices for build and test automation within the CICD pipelines.
- Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of the OPTIMUS platform, optimizing for efficient software delivery.
- Work closely with software developers and stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to virtual workspace, build, test and integration pipelines and quality gates.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in DevOps and configuration management practices, incorporating them into the development and improvement of the platform
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, with a focus on DevOps, configuration management and cloud computing.
- Strong expertise in building and maintaining automation pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar.
- Experience with cloud-based platforms, and familiarity with integrated virtual workspaces.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Solid understanding of embedded software development tools and processes.
- Knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools for software testing.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
