Our Hem/Onc infusion department has 26 infusion chairs. Our nurses care for a multitude of patients. Our patient population includes: autoimmune disorders, blood disorders, cancer, electrolyte imbalances, infectious diseases, inflammatory conditions, Chron’s disease, migraines and chronic headaches, neurological disorders, Osteoporosis, anemia, and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Nursing skills gained on this unit:
- IV starts
- Central Lines
- Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certification
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) Certification
- Fostering support for patients and loved ones
- Hypersensitivity reaction skills
Unit success/designations:
Awarded The Joint Commission Gold Seal renewal for 3 years (April 2023)
- Awarded standard renewal for 3 years (June 2024) by The American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC)
- 11 oncology certified nurses (OCN)
- Magnet Certified
Unit culture/highlights:
- Offered 45 hours of field precepting to a WGU student
- Fosters an environment for learning
- Drug reps and pharmacy provides education to nursing team
- Support from fellow team members, as well as a dedicated leadership team
Qualifications
- Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
- Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
- Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
