Job Description:

Supervise and coordinate the Saving Smiles Community-Based Dental Outreach Programs to include:
• Develop and implement educational services and clinical preventive services.
• Oversee collection and reporting of programmatic processes, Medicaid billing, and outcome data. Oversee and manage staff and interns to make sure Medicaid is being billed in a timely manner.  Stay current with managed care groups within Medicaid through reading email notifications and managed care handbook updates. Also attends teleconferences and webinars related to Medicaid and disseminates new information to employees, students, and interns.
• Provide treatment procedures based on patient’s needs.
• Provide monthly reports detailing treatments rendered by procedure code and patient demographics.
• Primary liaison with Program Director, Faculty, dental students, staff, interns and volunteers as well as community partners.  Works with DMD students to assist in a community outreach program on their own or with a student organization such as SNDA, AAPHD, AAWD and ASDA.  Work with DMD students to guide them through their project, making sure they stay within college guidelines.  Assist students with contacting local schools, ordering supplies, and advertising.
• Ensure program compliance with state and university regulations and policies.

Direct patient care in community-based prevention and screening programs to include:
• Organizes, instructs, supervises, and evaluates patient care in oral hygiene education.
• Coordinates program, patient, and resource scheduling.
• Ensures informed consents are obtained.
• Completes and maintains patient charts.
• Places dental sealants in public health settings or as prescribed by attending dentist.
• Applies fluoride varnish as indicated in health access settings.
• Maintains community-based preventive program.
• Continues education through in-service training, lectures, and interprofessional education experiences.
• Maintains current CPR certification as required.

Establish partnerships with community organizations to institute community-based preventions programs.
• Schedule and coordinate all outreach activities.
• Serve as liaison between organizations and program faculty.
• Ensure all forms and documents are reviewed and approved by the community partners.
• Work with organizations to identify suitable space for community-based dental services.

Supervise and evaluate all Community Outreach staff
• Train clinical staff in program operations. Oversee and instruct SFC and DMD students on the application of fluoride varnish, application of dental sealants, teaching oral hygiene instruction to patients, patient management, dental charting, treatment planning, nutrition education to their patients and patients parents, and teaching SFC and DMD students ergonomics while treating patients, infection control and professionalism.
• Ensure staff compliance with state, local, University, and partnering organization rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Maintain ongoing communication with Program Director and Faculty on staff issues.
• Actively participate in recruitment of new staff members as required.

Provide oral health educational resources and support for school staff; Monitor and maintain dental supply inventory and equipment; submit supply orders; ensure that instruments are sterilized and available as needed.  Ensure that grants funds are accurately managed with a balanced budget system throughout program implementation.  Oversees maintenance of all equipment, include dental equipment and cargo van.  Other duties as assigned

Expected Salary:

$42/hr, commensurate with education/experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Licensed as a dental hygienist in accordance with Chapter 466, Florida Statutes and 6 years of clinical work experience as a licensed dental hygienist.
Two-year certificate program or Associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene from an institution accredited by the Commission of Dental Accreditation.
State dental hygiene license in good standing.
3 years of experience coordinating dental community prevention programs.
