Sr. Associate, Scientific Software Engineer

Role Summary

We are seeking a Scientific Software Engineer (SSE) to join our R&D Solutions Engineering team in Pfizer Digital to deliver software solutions that streamline Pfizer’s R&D workflows and enable data driven decision-making processes. The selected candidate will partner with R&D scientists and Digital colleagues to design, configure, develop, and support fit-for-purpose solutions for Pfizer partner lines such as Medicine Design, as well as other R&D units. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and in team settings. A good balance of scientific knowledge and solid software engineering skills will be key to the success of this role.

With some oversight this role:

• Partner with users and Digital Client Partners to understand the needs and requirements of R&D scientists.

• Design, update, and develop solutions from an initial set of requirements, employing agile and AI-based methodologies for rapid solution evolution.

• Provide technical support to end users on existing systems as needed and identify areas for enhancement.

• Communicate the future state of a system to users and client partners using wireframes, workflow diagrams and prototypes.

• Work in a matrix, team environment with Pfizer colleagues (both Digital and R&D) as well as vendor partners.

• Advocate for Agile and DevOps methodologies and keep abreast of emerging technologies.

• Work on projects that range from small-scale where you are the lone solution engineer, to those that require effective collaboration with other solution engineers as part of a broader team

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree required, major in a technical field such as Chemistry, Information Technology, Life Sciences, Software Engineering, Information Management, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or other engineering discipline.

Capabilities and Experience:

• 3+ years of experience

• Demonstrated ability to develop multi-tiered solutions in a modern programming language e.g. Java, Python, C/C++, C#, Javascript, etc. as well as an understanding of web technologies HTML, CSS and related frameworks (e.g. REACT). Experience with containers and related technologies (e.g. k8s) is ideal.

• Demonstrated ability to understand data and integration architectures to manage, transform, and exploit data across the enterprise

• Demonstrated experience and skills in analysis and problem solving

• A combination of technical and scientific education/experience is preferred.

• An advanced degree is preferred

• Facilitation, negotiating, and presentation skills

• Experience working in ambiguous situations

• Demonstrated experience using standard requirements business analysis techniques, including brainstorming, interviewing, requirements sessions, activity diagrams and use cases desired

• Demonstrated experience and/or demonstrated competencies either informally or formally contributing on various-size teams of technologists, IT professionals or project managers using Agile, DevOps, and other approaches for iterative development

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively in team settings, frequently in virtual teams with client partner and customer engagement responsibilities

• Demonstrated capability to understand security requirements, and using the frameworks and tools the organization has put in place to meet those requirements
