PAY RANGE: $29 - $32/hr

Performs receiving and mail courier duties for the City.  Receiving duties include matching items received to orders, related computer entry and delivery.  Mail courier duties include delivery and preparation of internal and U.S. mail.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Packages supplies for delivery to City departments.

  • Checks in products and supplies and matches documents to actual products received.

  • Delivers internal and U.S. mail to departments both within the Municipal Center and at various off‑site locations according to an established schedule.

  • Delivers products and supplies to the appropriate location both within the Municipal Center and at various off‑site locations; maintains proof of delivery records.

  • Provide courier services to off-site agencies as needed.

  • Enters data into a computer terminal.

  • Organizes, prepares, processes, weighs and places postage on all outgoing U.S. mail.

  • Picks up requested printing jobs within the Municipal Center and at various off‑site locations and delivers completed printing jobs to the appropriate location.

  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail and packages by private carriers such as UPS, Fedex, etc.

  • Responds to inquiries and questions regarding mail.

  • Sorts internal and U.S. Mail into mailboxes.

  • Able to assist Lead Mailroom Technician with bulk mailings.

  • Back-up to Lead Mailroom Technician as necessary for preparing monthly reporting.

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current technology and advances in postage and mailing methods.

  • Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner.

  • Requires regular and prompt attendance.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Supervision Received

Receives general supervision from Lead Mailroom Technician and Purchasing Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.   

Licensure/Certification/Registration

Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and match information.

  • Ability to use an automated computer terminal.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word).

  • Knowledge of standard mailroom procedures and ability to interpret postal regulations.

  • Effective interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with other employees, the public and members of City Council.

  • Ability to communicate via telephone.

  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment physical, reference and background checks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Lifting and Carrying

Lifts cartons containing paper, personal computers and other material weighing in excess of 50 pounds.

Body Positions

Bends, moves about, stands, drives and uses a hand cart and/or dolly for moving supplies in and around City Hall and other outlying facilities.

Hearing

Ability to take direction from supervisor and others. 

Vision

Uses vision for driving and operating a computer terminal.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Mathematics

Uses basic math when working with postage fees and mail item counts.

Remembering:

Ability to remember directions given.

Ability to remember the numerous mailing variations, alternatives and restrictions.

Language Ability

Ability to communicate verbally with a wide variety of staff as well as outside vendors and City Council members.

Reasoning

Ability to make appropriate decisions on different types of mailings to realize best cost alternatives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a well-lit store room atmosphere as well as in an office environment.

Some time spent outside in all types of weather conditions when delivering mail to outlying facilities.

Driving in possibly adverse weather conditions.
