Academic Quality Assurance Specialist (Remote)

The Academic Quality Assurance Specialist for the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC) is a full-time employment position reporting to the Manager of Academic Quality Services. The Academic Quality Assurance Specialist provides writing, copyediting, proofreading, document styling and formatting expertise to meet the university’s curricular and assessment documentation requirements. They edit materials for clarity, consistency of style, grammar, spelling, appropriate references and copyright information and are responsible for functionality, consistency, navigation, accessibility and usability testing of online course content. The Academic Quality Assurance Specialist reviews interface design and content materials for compliance with copyright and accessibility guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance and Course Evaluation
Supporting faculty and staff in the Quality Matters™ program certification process through documentation review and quality assurance.
Coordinating and supporting faculty in the review of online courses for quality assurance.
Performing internal quality assurance reviews to improve the quality and consistency of course materials, including course guides, instructor guidance, supplemental materials, rubrics, and e-learning interactions.
Reviewing spelling, punctuation, capitalization, formatting (APA and general), clarity, context, consistency, alignment, and universal design in course materials. Producing regular quality assurance reports for internal distribution.
Course Design and Development
Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration to plan, design, develop, document, and test new and revised online courses.
Applying instructional design and adult learning theory to course design.
Developing strategies and resources related to style, formatting, and editorial elements to improve the curriculum development process.
Researching and supporting t
Evaluates instructional technologies and tools within the curriculum and makes recommendations for use based on universal design, accessibility, and the Quality Matters™ standards.The enhancement of online course design and delivery through data-informed practice.
Shares research and contributes ideas to improve the quality and efficiency of course development processes.
Institutional Quality and Continuous Improvement
Sharing research findings and contributing ideas to improve the quality and efficiency of course development processes.
Attending professional conferences, researching new trends, and reporting findings to relevant audiences.
Participating in institutional initiatives and special projects that support continuous improvement in academic quality and student learning. Performing additional duties as assigned that contribute to institutional effectiveness and innovation.

Accessibility and Standards Compliance
Ensuring adherence to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 and the most up-to-date Quality Matters™ standards.
Evaluating instructional technologies and tools for accessibility, universal design, and alignment with institutional standards.
Additional projects and duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theory to course design.
Knowledge of APA formatting, developing and using style guides, and adherence to university styles and standards.
Knowledge of advanced MS Word features such as styles, references, tables of contents, lists of figures and tables, footnotes, header and footer options, page layout functions, tracked changes to create professionally prepared academic documents.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Communication Studies, Technical Writing, or related Liberal Arts field.
Advanced proficiency in the utilization of database, spreadsheet, and applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Five plus years of experience in a higher education setting.
Proven record of strong writing and editing skills.
Excellent problem-solving, writing and editing, and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree preferred.
Strong leadership skills, excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively
