Position Summary

The Assistant Principal at ChiArts is a key member of the school’s leadership team, supporting the Principal in advancing the school’s mission to provide a rigorous college-preparatory academic curriculum alongside pre-professional arts training. This role requires a dynamic, equity-driven, and solutions-oriented leader who thrives in a collaborative, high-accountability environment. The Assistant Principal ensures the smooth daily operation of the school, fosters a positive, inclusive, and safe school culture, and supports instructional excellence. 

Core Responsibilities

Strategic and Operational Leadership

• Collaborate with the Principal to implement and improve systems that support school-wide academic and cultural goals. 

• Supports and collaborates with the Artistic Director by ensuring alignment between artistic programming and the school’s broader educational mission. 

• Oversee daily school operations (8:00-5:00 pm), ensuring coverage, supervision, and safety throughout the building. 

• Collaborate with the Director of Operations to coordinate logistics for transportation,  facilities, and food services.

• Maintain the school calendar and collaborate with stakeholders to schedule all internal and external events. 

• Serve as acting Principal in their absence.

• Lead and manage master scheduling in PowerSchool, ensuring timely completion and alignment with academic and arts programming.

Instructional Support and Educator Effectiveness

• Support the implementation of instructional programs aligned with ChiArts’ dual curriculum. 

• Assist in academic teacher evaluations, coaching, and professional development in accordance with ChiArts and CBA guidelines. 

• Support the Principal in leading cycles of instructional improvement by conducting classroom observations, providing targeted feedback, and coaching teachers using the ChiArts teacher evaluation framework. Assist in developing and facilitating differentiated professional development aligned with schoolwide instructional goals.

• Partner with the Principal and ILT to lead regular data review meetings using STAR, ACT, classroom assessments, and ACCESS data to identify trends and inform responsive instruction. Monitor the fidelity of instructional interventions, particularly for multilingual learners, diverse learners, and students requiring academic support.

• Collaborate with the principal to hold teachers accountable for high instructional expectations through clear, consistent coaching systems and progress monitoring. Support the design of schoolwide goals for teaching and learning and work with department leads and teacher teams to implement instructional practices aligned with rigorous college-preparatory standards.
