  • Senior (Groundwater) Modeller with the Water Group
  • Permanent full-time opportunity - 35 hours per week + FlexTime
  • Any NSW office location - regional location encouraged/hybrid working supported
  • Salary ranges from $129,331 - $139,787 + super + leave loading

 

The Water Group leads the NSW Government in providing confidence to communities and stakeholders with the transparent stewardship of water resources, provision of services and reforms that support sustainable and healthy environments, economies and societies across NSW.

The Senior (Groundwater) Modeller reports to the Lead Groundwater Modeller and leads in the investigation and analysis in the area of hydrology and hydraulics to provide data information to inform water management policy and planning in NSW.

 

About You

Our Senior (Groundwater) Modeller will provide specialist expertise in the area of groundwater and surface water hydrology and hydraulic analysis using statistical and model simulation techniques for the purpose of informing water management policy and planning in NSW.

You will be a senior member of various projects and teams; you will plan and undertake the delivery of projects for water management planning and policy. You will do this by project managing and performing investigations and analysis of hydrology and hydraulics project data sets to inform water management outcomes.

Key Knowledge & Experience

  • Extensive experience in one or more of the following hydrologic disciplines: mathematical groundwater hydrology and hydraulics, groundwater modelling with surface water interaction, water resources management modelling, catchment process modelling, statistics, computer programming, application of spatial modelling
  • Extensive experience in assessing the suitability of hydrologic and hydraulic model outputs for natural resource management requirements
  • Extensive experience in developing conceptual models of groundwater flow systems, supporting development of groundwater models, auditing models, model calibration, performing quantitative hydrogeology and analysing aquifer pumping tests
  • Extensive experience with optimization software such as PEST
  • Experience using Python
  • Strong communication, report writing and stakeholder management skills
  • Postgraduate qualifications preferred
  • Strong vocation and dedication to the career path of groundwater modelling
  • Expert understanding of hydrogeological principles and practices
  • Expert understanding of groundwater/surface water interaction, unsaturated zone and recharge processes
  • Guideline of 10 years of groundwater modelling experience
  • Extensive experience developing and calibrating MODFLOW or FEFLOW based groundwater models, exposure to other codes also considered

Essential requirements

  • Degree level qualifications in Engineering, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
