CLOUD Operations Specialist

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

• Configuration, management, operation and a monitoring of a production cloud environment to be used for research and investigations activities.
• Design, implementation, operation, maintenance, performance optimization and documentation of a desktop virtualization environment in the cloud.
• Creation, management and deployment of virtual machines and virtual machine templates for data science and investigatory activities.
• Deployment and operation of services (e.g. for data science) on the ECAT cloud and on-premise ICT environments.
• Provide subject matter expert technical support to IT staff responsible for the provision of computing and ICT resources according to the needs of ECAT staff.
• Implementation and administration of information security measures in accordance with security rules defined for ECAT infrastructures
• Participation in technical working groups, progress meetings and meetings with the users and other stakeholders.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Good knowledge of cloud architectures and experience in the setup of cloud infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of technological environments for virtualization of resources (esp. VMWare).
• Ability to set up, configure, manage and harden virtual machines and VM templates based on Linux operating systems.
• Strong and proven experience in the deployment and maintenance of services in the cloud.
• Ability to define and implement solutions for the integration of multi-cloud and hybrid (cloud + on-premise) IT environments.
• Ability to define and implement solutions/services for network connectivity (e.g. VPN), protocols for data exchange, and access (SSH, RDP, VNC), including performance optimization. .
• Experience in DevOps practices and automation of cloud infrastructure deployment, infrastructure as code practices.
• Knowledge of best cybersecurity practices in the cloud and experience in their implementation. Experience with access control and authentication technologies.
• Ability to cope with fast changing technologies used in cloud and virtualised environments.
• Capabilities to write clear and structural technical documents in English.

Due to the particular nature of the client, candidates should also have the following non-technical skills:

• Capability of integration in an international/multicultural environment, rapid self-starting capability and experience in working in team;
• Ability to understand, speak and write English (B2)
• Excellent Team Player
• High degree of discretion and integrity

SPECIFIC EXPERTISE

• Experience in managing virtualized environments based on VMWare technology.
• Ability to design and set up desktop virtualization solutions in the cloud.

CERTIFICATIONS & STANDARDS:

• Any training related to cloud architecture and operations, virtualisation and cloud security will be considered as beneficial for performing of tasks.
