Job Summary and Responsibilities
Summary: An Associate Telecommunications Engineer - Private Networks will need a strong foundation in routing and switching protocols and network troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have experience in diagnosing complex network issues through deductive reasoning and problem-solving techniques, along with a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Troubleshoot advanced routing and switching protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, and MPLS) and resolve network issues effectively, regardless of device manufacturer.
- Utilize deductive reasoning to analyze and discover the network design and identify the nature of issues impacting the system's performance.
- Solve complex network problems by adapting and modifying standard troubleshooting techniques and procedures to fit unique scenarios and challenges.
- Assist in network design and configuration, ensuring the smooth integration of technologies and the development of scalable solutions.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to design, implement, and manage network infrastructure, ensuring robust network performance and security.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and system updates.
- Participate in network optimization efforts, identifying opportunities for improved performance and efficiency.
- Work with Siemens switches and routers, assisting in their configuration and troubleshooting under guidance from senior engineers.
- Contribute to improving and streamlining network management processes to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and/or QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience in network engineering, with hands-on experience in wide-area networks (WANs) and LAN design.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to troubleshoot complex networks and adapt standard procedures to meet the needs of the network environment.
- Experience with SONET and MPLS design, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with IEC-61850 networks for critical systems and applications is preferred.
- Experience in network automation and designing for electric utility systems.
- Experience with Siemens switches and routers, including design, programming, and troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to design networks in compliance with regulatory standards such as NERC CIP and NIST.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Network Management System (NMS) design and deployment experience is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Certifications in relevant networking technologies (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent) are a plus.
- Experience working in electric utility environments and understanding operational requirements.
- Experience with Siemens switches and routers is preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to new challenges and modify standard solutions to fit the situation.
- Hands-on experience with network troubleshooting and a willingness to learn advanced techniques and tools.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively work with internal teams and provide clear documentation.
