POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)
The Director, Patient Engagement is charged with developing strategies and executing tactics for recruiting, training and motivating a robust and diverse group of patients to engage across all organizational focus areas, both internally and externally.
Position accountability includes but is not limited to conducting qualitative discussions, such as focus groups, listening sessions and in-depth interviews, with targeted segments (people with OA, RA, newly diagnosed, parents of kids with JA, etc.) to gather patient input; analyzing qualitative results and reporting key findings to stakeholders, and managing the Arthritis Perspectives panel, including recruitment strategy and promotion.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)
- Recruit, train, and motivate a robust group of patients to engage across all organizational focus areas, both internally and externally.
- Conduct patient and caregiver qualitative research, such as focus groups, listening sessions and in-depth interviews with targeted segments to help inform the Foundation’s work.
- Analyze results from qualitative research and report on findings, presenting those to key stakeholders, including internal teams and external partners.
- Manage the Arthritis Perspectives panel, working closely with the marketing team on promotion tactics to recruit a diverse group of patients representative of the broader population of arthritis patients.
- Provide training to patients on their roles and prepare local markets to embrace patient engagement as well as meet appropriate local patient engagement demands.
- Serve as the clearinghouse for internal and external patient engagement requests, tracking and responding to all inquiries.
- Support the Senior Director, Constituent Insights in the assimilation of qualitative and quantitative patient insights and the dissemination of those to stakeholders.
- Manage expenses related to patient engagement initiatives and activities.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in market research, marketing, psychology, sociology, or related fields.
- 4-6 years of experience engaging with and soliciting insights from patients and patient groups, or master’s degree and 2-4 years of experience.
- Emotional intelligence and strong empathy skills required.
- Experience working at a patient advocacy organization strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with patient engagement strategies to build and recruit patients to represent an inclusive arthritis community.
- Deep interest in understanding the patient’s perspective.
- Strong strategic and critical thinking skills.
- Experience moderating discussions and conducting interviews with patients for insights; knowledge of respondent recruitment practices is a plus.
- Ability to quickly identify patterns and meaningful insights within large sets of data.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and requests at once.
- Experience turning insights into opportunities and solutions.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Understands business principles and terminology.
- Works collaboratively and proactively within a team environment, as well as independently.
- Willingness to work at both a strategic and tactical level.
- Strong knowledge in computer skills including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Experience using the Qualtrics survey platform is a plus.
