Assistant Director, Civic Engagement

 

 

JOB SUMMARY 

 

The Assistant Director for Civic Engagement in the Center for Student Involvement is charged with advancing a culture of civic engagement and co-curricular community-based learning on campus, specifically throughout Student Life.  The Assistant Director will facilitate a wide range of civic learning and engagement opportunities, both one-time projects/programs and on-going initiatives.  In partnership with community-based organizations, the Assistant Director facilitates meaningful civic responsibility, service, community engagement, and educational programs in order to inspire positive community engagement, enhance civic leadership, and foster civic responsibility.  The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

 

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

 

Reports to:      Director of the Center for Student Involvement

 

Supervises:     Graduate Assistant/s, Andrew Goldman Goodman Foundation Interns, Campus Voting Project Democracy Fellow         

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

 

  • Directly advise and support student organizations and student leaders in the development of on and off campus programming efforts that align with the civic engagement/responsibility and community engagement areas. 
  • Provide secondary support for all programming and advising activities within the Center for Student Involvement
  • Provides vision and leadership for innovative growth and expansion of civic engagement programming in addition to continual program improvement and refinement.
  • Aligns programming with TWU’s conceptual framework to support a visionary co-curricular civic engagement program with student learning outcomes.
  • Cultivates relationships with community partners to ensure reciprocal and mutually beneficial relationship and community-based service learning opportunities.
  • Liaises and engages with campus partners including University Housing & Dining Services, Greek Life, Undergraduate Studies, Diversity, Inclusion, & Outreach Center for Belonging & First Year Generation Students, SGA (student government), Athletics, the Office of Civility & Community Standards and other related programs to collaborate and create synergy in civic engagement messaging.
  • Utilizes databases for tracking civic engagement and service activities as well as community, campus, and student partners for data-based decision making and reporting purposes.
  • Supports the assessment and evaluation planning and reporting for civic engagement programming including demonstrating the scope, efficiency/rating, and outcomes/impacts of civic engagement programming.
  • Recruits, tracks, and mentors Pioneer Service Scholars throughout the academic year. 
  • Advises, supervises, and provides programmatic and developmental support for civic engagement specific student organizations, specifically those students focused on planning events and programs (ex – Helping Hands, APO, Volunteer Advisors, etc.).
  • Advises student alternative break leaders and participants through planning and preparations for weeklong and/or weekend immersive community-engaged experience/s.
  • Serves on campus-wide Civic Engagement Task Force.
  • Responsible for campus voter registration and education programming, including voter deputy process.
  • Provides individual and group consultation related to civic engagement and service to students as requested/needed.
  • Administers the annual programmatic budget with supervisor to include elements of program cost recovery and savings.
  • Oversees program administration including contracts, purchase requests, data collection, budget tracking, inventory of supplies and equipment, et cetera.
  • Supports marketing, outreach plans, and campaigns focused on civic engagement and service.
  • Responsive to requests of supervisor to best support a growing program.
  • Participates in CSI meetings, professional development, and related team-building activities.
  • Participates in outreach for CSI at information fairs and other opportunities.
  • Provides secondary support for all CSI programs, organizations and activities. 
  • Serves on relevant campus and community wide committees.

 

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

 

  • Supports the Orientation program.
  • Opportunity to teach a UNIV 1231 section.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and requested.
