Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

Florida State Hospital (FSH) is a mental health treatment facility owned and operated by the State of Florida and is part of the Department of Children and Families. This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Registered Nursing Consultant Supervisor in Risk Management. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • This position serves as the Hospital Health Care Risk Manager/Safety Officer and is highly responsible professional, managerial and administrative work to reduce, control, or eliminate the possibility of incidents to resident, staff, and visitors at the institution; thereby minimizing financial loss. This is accomplished by assessing, planning, and coordinating responsibilities to prevent or minimize accidental injury, illness, property damage, or other preventable loss or negligent acts. The Risk Manager/Safety Officer is responsible for the overall coordination of the incident reporting system, investigations, and the general liability program for the largest Florida State Mental Health Institution, which consists of approximately 949 licensed beds and 1,935 employees.
  • Process and analyze a magnitude of daily resident incident reports in a priority manner. Review reports for timeliness, content, accuracy, and ensuring compliance with applicable Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Codes, Department Regulations, and Hospital Operating Procedures. Develops, maintains, and monitors an automated Hospital Risk Management Incident Tracking System, covering resident incidents, including the type, frequency, causes, and outcomes. Analyze the frequency, causes, general categories and types of incidents causing injury to residents. Analyze incident reports and make recommendations to reduce the frequency and severity of resident injuries. Make recommendations for corrective measures in problem areas. Completes applicable follow-up actions, makes necessary referrals, maintains suspense system to ensure professional timely completion of actions. Advise supervisor of any adverse patterns or trends identified.
