The Automation Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing the automation projects being developed for Toro sites. They work with the Manufacturing Technology Lab (MTL) team and various site personnel, including vendors, engineers, and engineering and production managers, to ensure that projects will meet customer needs and are delivered on time and in budget.

The Project Engineer is responsible for collecting requirements for a new automation project, budgeting the design and build of the project, overseeing and coordinating resources for production and installation of the equipment at the intended facility, and coordinating start-up support and modifications.

What Will You Do?

  • Coordinate the introduction of innovative technologies and processes that create efficiencies for manufacturing plants

  • Responds to request for quotes on all new products requested.  Gather customer requirements and create quotes

  • Schedule and coordinate MTL operations to ensure on-time delivery of equipment to the destination plant

  • Coordinate MTL and production plant resources to facilitate on-time project start and equipment installation

  • Maintain records on project spending compared to budget

  • Coordinate support activities related to testing, startup, and debugging of new equipment

  • Maintain records on project status and communicate with business leadership and stakeholders

  • Responsible for the overall project management and coordination for technology development projects. Works with the plant to coordinate capital project implementation including justification, competitive bidding, and program completion.

  • Creating long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines

  • Delegating tasks on the project to employees best positioned to complete them

  • Making effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project

  • Serving as a point of contact for MTL team to respond to questions and quote requests

  • Communicating with stakeholders to keep the project aligned with their goals

  • Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needs or financing for the project change

  • Coordinating development of equipment documentation

  • Conducting regular meetings with manufacturing staff to discuss production schedules and issues that may arise during production

  • Coordinating with vendors to ensure that materials are delivered on time, in the correct quantities, and meet quality standards

  • Review reports from MTL team members to identify problems or concerns with production schedules, budget, or materials

  • Approves all MTL purchase orders to assure assigned cost centers are maintained within the approved budget guidelines.

What Do You Need?

  • B.S in Industrial/Production/Mechanical or any engineering related field and 3-5 years of experience in project management (PM II) 5+ years of experience in project management (PM III)

  • PMP certification preferred

  • Experience with Mechatronics, Cobots, Autonomous Guided Vehicles, or other automated equipment preferred.

  • Strong project management skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a large range of people

  • Leadership, organizational, and strategic planning skills

  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
