Job Description

The Career Services Specialist supports the delivery of student-centered career development services and contributes to the daily operations of the Career Resource Center at North Hennepin Community College.

This position plays a key role in helping students explore career pathways, gain practical experience, and prepare for successful job, internship, and transfer opportunities. Through individual appointments, workshops, and events, the Specialist provides guidance in career exploration, resume and cover letter development, job and internship search strategies, networking, and interview preparation. The position also supports career programming, employer engagement activities, and operational systems that enhance student access to opportunities and improve the effectiveness of Career Services

Salary Range:

$20.20 - $24.02 hourly

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two to three years of post-secondary education and must be in good academic standing

  • Must be enrolled at a credit granting institution or at a non-credit granting institution and must be carrying at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, the student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including written, oral, and electronic

  • Ability to take initiative to achieve tasks independently, but also work effectively as a team member

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to set priorities, balance a workload, adhere to a schedule, and meet deadlines

  • Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency, incorporates culturally responsive practices, and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities

  • Demonstrated computer technology including Microsoft Office, e-mail, on-line databases, and internet

Preferred Qualification 

  • Skills or experience in applying theories of student development in practice, preferably in the college or university setting

  • Experience in customer service, peer mentoring, advising, or student support roles

  • Familiarity with resume writing, job search strategies, or career development concepts

  • Experience using platforms such as Handshake, Navigate, or other CRM systems

  • Experience supporting or facilitating workshops, events, or student programming

  • Exposure to career development theory or student development practices

  • Experience working with diverse and underserved populations
