The Mechanical Engineer II - Plumbing is responsible for the design of water pump and plumbing systems (water, and some hydraulics).  Plumbing design is done in Solidworks and includes pump selection, understanding flow capability, proper selection of components, and innovative problem solving for custom design applications.  Additional skill areas include creative design, cross-functional teamwork, working with suppliers and manufacturing. Emergency vehicle design experience and strong working knowledge of engines, chassis, pumps and other mechanical systems is a strongly desired.  

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Produce designs that meet cost, quality, reliability, performance, and serviceability targets
  • Create and manage models, drawings, bills of material and other pertinent engineering data
  • Incorporate customer requirements and needs into a robust design
  • Apply engineering design changes into the manufacturing process
  • Provide manufacturing process support
  • Evaluate, test and specify materials for cost reduction, quality improvement, and/or new product introduction
  • Evaluate current designs for product and cost improvement opportunities
  • Interface with all areas of the Spartan team to determine product needs and specifications
  • Solve complex problems with minimal assistance
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) preferred.  Candidates with a 2-year technical degree will also be considered.
  • Background in complex machine or vehicle product design
  • 2+ years of Solid works 3D modeling experience minimum
  • 3+ years of AutoCAD drafting experience minimum
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical, communication and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability in bringing engineering projects to completion, on time and within budget
  • Strong project management and interpersonal skills
  • Energetic, motivated, team player
  • Thorough understanding of the production manufacturing operations and design for manufacturability
  • Demonstrated knowledge of materials specifications, properties, and processing techniques
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Versatile, flexible, and a willingness to adapt to changing priorities
  • Willing to improve self / area / company (including pursing additional training, if needed)
