Position Start Date: September 1, 2025

 

Required Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Music is required. Bachelor's Degree in Music Education is preferred. The required degree must be completed by the start date. 

 

Experience: 

  • Teaching school-age orchestra students in a school setting and/or amateur or novice adult musicians in private lessons or a group setting experience required.

  • Strong conducting and performance skills on a primary orchestral string instrument are required.

 Duties/Expectations: 

  • Firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Firm commitment to the mission of the BYU New Horizons Orchestra, which is to provide entry and re-entry points for adults seeking music-making opportunities in a string orchestra.
  • Teach all four orchestral string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass).
  • Conduct the orchestra as assigned by the music director.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support as assigned by the music director.
  • Guide and help BYU music education majors assigned to teach orchestra members.
