Pay Range: $128,700 - 171,600

The Role

Establish and implement methods for identifying, evaluating and analyzing risks and recommending loss control methods and risk financing alternatives.  Develop, manage, & administer risk control & risk finance programs that support BSD's goal of providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective transportation. Oversee the administration of BSD's internal service funds for the casualty and workers’ compensation self-insured claims. Hire, train, manage and develop a team of professionals in all aspects of the risk management and claims.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for identifying and securing appropriate insurance with adequate terms and conditions that is cost-efficient to protect BSD’s assets and financial resources.
• Evaluate potential risks and exposures to BSD for risk transfer, risk financing or insurability.
• Manage "Cost of Risk" to a stable and cost-effective level.
• Evaluate, manage and implement the revisions and updates of the COOP (Continuity of Operations Plan) for BSD
• Represent BSD in depositions and mediations for litigated claims.
• Collaborate with outside attorneys and TPA on BSD defense strategies.
• Oversee outside attorney performance and outline expectations.
• Ensure that claims are handled promptly, fairly and efficiently.
• Ensure that loss data is correctly recorded and accurately analyzed to support the risk management decision process.
• Provide risk transfer and risk financing consulting services on BSD's major construction projects and to Business Enterprises as needed.
• Develop and maintain systems and procedures for risk transfer in contracts, leases, & agreements.
• Identify claim trends and work with Safety to develop programs that reduce accidents and injuries and improve the BSD safety outcomes.
• Represent BSD professionally and to present information to insurance companies, senior management and BSD Board of Commissioners.
