About the role
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- MGA Performance Management: Regularly monitor the MGA's underwriting results, including loss ratios, expense ratios, rate, retention and overall premium growth. Analyze performance data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and potential risks.
- Underwriting Authority and Guidelines: Ensure the MGA operates within its granted underwriting authority and adheres to all established underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures. Conduct regular audits and reviews to verify compliance.
- Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for the MGA, fostering a strong and collaborative partnership built on trust and open communication. Conduct regular meetings to discuss performance, strategic initiatives, and operational issues.
- Underwriting Audits and Reviews: Plan, coordinate, and conduct periodic underwriting audits of the MGA's operations to assess adherence to guidelines, identify potential weaknesses, and recommend corrective actions.
- Product and Program Development: Collaborate with the MGA on the development and implementation of new insurance products and programs, ensuring alignment with the company's risk appetite and strategic goals. Provide underwriting expertise and guidance throughout the product lifecycle.
- Pricing and Rate Adequacy: Monitor the MGA's pricing strategies and ensure rate adequacy to achieve profitability targets. Collaborate on rate adjustments and pricing initiatives as needed.
- Compliance and Regulatory Adherence: Ensure the MGA operates in full compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, as well as internal company policies. Stay abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes that may impact the MGA's operations.
- Communication and Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on the MGA's performance, key metrics, and any significant issues to senior management. Effectively communicate underwriting guidelines, performance expectations, and strategic updates to the MGA.
- Training and Development: Collaborate with the MGA to ensure their underwriting staff receives appropriate training and development on company guidelines, product knowledge, and best practices.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management).
- 10 years of underwriting experience, with a strong preference for commercial multi-peril underwriting skill
- A highly results-driven executive with a documented history of successfully expanding and optimizing underwriting portfolios for sustained profitability.
- Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and demonstrates strong accountability for achieving measurable results
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Exceptional skills, and a proven ability to effectively manage external partnerships
